A Internet é nos dias de hoje o meio de comunicação mais utilizado em todo o mundo! Enquanto utilizadores, estamos sempre à espera que um e-mail nos chegue, que alguém nos coloque uma informação no nosso mural ou escreva uma mensagem no MSN ou Skype, etc etc.
E quando não temos como aceder à Internet? Apesar de este tipo de situações ser cada vez mais escasso a verdade é que mesmo em Portugal existem locais onde a Internet não chega.
Tal como em Portugal, são muitos os locais onde não há sinal para ligação a maior rede de comunicação do mundo. Na semana passada a empresa Iridium (consórcio dirigido pela empresa norte-americana Motorola, que possui um sofisticado sistema de telecomunicações baseado numa grande e complexa constelação formada por 66 satélites “LEO” ou de órbita polar baixa – órbita de baixa altitude) apresentou uma solução interessante baptizada com o nome AxcessPoint.
Segundo a empresa, o AxcessPoint hotspot wifi permite que blackberrys, iDevices (iPads, iPhones ou iPods) e até mesmo dispositivos com Windows se liguem à Internet via satélite, através de um telefone. Apesar da largura de banda não ser elevada, a empresa afirma que é suficiente para se aceder ao e-mail e outras tarefas idênticas (ex. aceder às redes sociais, etc).
No seguimento desta solução a Iridium disponibilizou também a Iridium AxcessPoint Mail & Web (ver aqui) que oferece agora um ligação confiável à Internet, a partir de qualquer lugar do mundo para os mais de 250 milhões de utilizadores da Apple.

Iridium AxcessPoint Mail & Web features built-in firewall protection to block extraneous Internet traffic providing data speeds up to five times faster for web browsing and 15 times faster for email. This optimization software allows for offline viewing and composition of emails. It also enables configuration and filtering of large data files and attachments, as well as mid-file restart of attachment transfers if required.
